BIRDS EVERYWHERE!

Double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, black-crowned night herons, razorbilled auks, black guillemots, kittiwakes and various gulls nest throughout the islands. Large flocks of scoters, black ducks, goldeneyes and brants also populate the shores and surrounding waters. All these birds require undisturbed breeding and feeding grounds. In close cooperation with the Canadian Wildlife Service, owner of some neighboring islands, Duvetnor has decided to help protect these habitats. At Duvetnor, birds come first!

MIND THE BIRDS

You will be allowed to roam freely over Île aux Lièvres and Îles du Pot à l'Eau-de-Vie only once the birds have finished nesting in early July. Certain clearly marked areas will not be accessible until then (the exact date will be indicated). In addition, access to certain areas of these islands is prohibited at all times, and these will be clearly marked on the map you will be given.

Your visit to the Lower St. Lawrence Islands helps Société Duvetnor pursue its conservation and education goals.

BIRDS AROUND THE LIGHTHOUSE...
SMALL QUIZ FOR BIRDERS

If you stay at the lighthouse and climb the tower to admire the area, you’ll see many silhouettes of birds on the water and on land. Can you identify the birds?

Point your mouse at the bird outlines to see their names. By clicking on the birds, you will find the name of the photographer who agreed to lend us the photograph.
